See Wai Hun, an inspiring, innovative and visionary entrepreneur who co-founded JurisTech during the 1997 Asian financial crisis, recently graced the prestigious EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women Asia-Pacific conference which took place from 22-24 July. This year, Malaysia had the privilege and the honour to host the event bringing together selected women entrepreneurs from the Asia-Pacific region to share their experiences.

Wai Hun’s journey in the EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women programme started with her nomination in 2019 where Wai Hun was named EY Woman Entrepreneur Of The Year, a milestone that recognised her significant achievements in transforming JurisTech into a leader in financial technology solutions. Her strategic vision and relentless dedication have not only propelled JurisTech to new heights but also paved the way for innovative advancements within the industry and now driving global economies through lending and recovery software solutions.

In 2020, Wai Hun represented Malaysia for the EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women Asia-Pacific Class of 2020, becoming part of an elite global business network. The class of 2020 represents high-growth companies coming from 9 different countries across the Asia-Pacific region, all of whom are part of several distinct industries. Wai Hun has been selected as the only participant representing Malaysia, pioneering in the financial services sector.

The EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women Asia-Pacific a is a bespoke executive programme designed to support and accelerate the growth of high-potential female entrepreneurs globally. It aims to provide participants with strategic guidance, access to networks, and opportunities to enhance their businesses’ scalability and sustainability.

In the 2024 edition of the event, a total of 18 nominations were received, underscoring the programme’s growing influence and the increasing recognition of female entrepreneurship across Asia Pacific. On the 5th of April, JurisTech was thrilled to announce the winner for this year’s John Lim Award 2024 for celebrating extraordinary achievements in the innovation of technology. The award, which carries a winning prize of RM 2,000, underscores JurisTech’s commitment to recognising excellence in software engineering within our organisation and our affiliated company, iMoney. 

Moreover, this annual award not only provides software engineers (SEs) with well-deserved recognition but also instils a profound sense of fulfilment. Aligned with JurisTech’s core values (GECO values), the award remains committed to seeking out and inspiring talented engineers, providing them with platforms to showcase their groundbreaking innovations and recognising their exceptional accomplishments.

This year’s panel of judges, comprising esteemed leaders such as John Lim, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Hosein Abedinpourshotorban, Chief Innovation Officer (CINO), Kiarash RazaghiAval, Chief Information Officer (CIO), and Sam Foo Chee Sum, Deputy CIO, undertook a rigorous evaluation process to identify the project that best exemplified technical innovation and its impact on our company and customers.

Tan Shen Zhe emerged as this year’s award recipient, celebrated for his groundbreaking contributions that have propelled JurisTech to new heights. Shen’s innovative approach to workflow optimisation, particularly his acceleration of the ClickUp card creation process, has significantly enhanced our overall response efficiency. His achievement, particularly noteworthy as he has self-taught software engineering in addition to his role as a Business Analyst, serves as an inspiring example to aspiring innovators within JurisTech and iMoney.

Previously, the manual review of tickets generated by our ticketing system and the creation of corresponding ClickUp cards by JurisTech’s Business Analysts were necessary. Shen’s implementation has streamlined this process, reducing wait times for SEs and idle time between ticket receipt and ClickUp card creation. This optimisation has not only enhanced overall response efficiency but also allowed product teams to allocate more time to strategic Business Unit activities, thereby improving accuracy and reliability in managing and responding to customer tickets.

In addition to the winner, the judges also recognised two honorable mentions: Abirukmani Venkatachalam for her BoM Configurator, which streamlines the process of creating bill of materials for infrastructure proposals, and Mohamad Anwar Bin Kollacheri Ebrahim Kutty and Ng Lik Sern for their One Page Account Debugger, which centralises key information for account case identification numbers onto one screen, facilitating easy debugging and expediting client support.

As 2022 comes to a close, it’s a good time to reflect on the progress and achievements of our company. This year has been an exciting year for us at JurisTech, as we adjusted from the lockdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic to streamlining new business operations. Let’s take a look at some of the key events and achievements that shaped JurisTech in 2022. 

1. Appointment of JurisTech’s Chief Innovation Officer (CINO), Chief Information Officer (CIO), and Chief Product Officer (CPO)

We started the year with the addition of 3 new positions into our C-suite – Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Innovation Officer (CINO), and Chief Product Officer (CPO). They are helmed by Kiarash Razaghiaval, Hosein Abedinpourshotorban, and Tan Yan Lun respectively. Their individual contributions towards our company as a whole make them a formidable force to be reckoned with, and we are confident that we can expedite our company goals under the combined leadership of our C-suite members. 

2. JurisTech Partners With Mambu to Drive Innovation in Malaysia’s Digital Banking Ecosystem 

On the 6th of April, we partnered up with Mambu with the goal of being at the forefront of driving innovation in Malaysia’s digital banking ecosystem. With Malaysia becoming the third country within the ASEAN region to issue digital banking licenses, it created an opportunity to partner with Mambu to transform and revolutionise the digital banking ecosystem by providing high-impact solutions. Alongside Mambu’s expertise in cloud-native core banking platforms, we aim to work together in propagating innovative change within the Malaysian digital banking ecosystem, by advocating for financial inclusion within the underbanked community. 

3. Our CEO, See Wai Hun, was Awarded the Master Entrepreneur Award at The Asia-Pacific Enterprise Award 2022

On the 27th of May 2022, our revered CEO, See Wai Hun, was awarded the esteemed Master Entrepreneur Award by Asia-Pacific Enterprise Award (APEA) 2022. Started in 2007, the prestigious APEA is a Regional Awards Recognition programme that recognises entrepreneurial and corporate excellence in 16 countries. The Master Entrepreneur Award was awarded to Wai Hun as recognition for her outstanding leadership and exhibition of entrepreneurial traits that serve as a role model.

4. Our CEO, See Wai Hun, Invited As a Panellist for Endeavor Malaysia’s Local Selection Panel 2022

On the 26th of June, See Wai Hun was invited as a panellist for Endeavor Malaysia’s Local Selection Panel (LSP) 2022. Wai Hun was ecstatic about the opportunity to join the panel, as she alongside co-founders of JurisTech, John Lim and Naaman Lee, were once on the receiving end of the Endeavor Entrepreneurs selection process during the 54th International Selection Panel in New York. This year, Wai Hun was on the other side of the table interviewing and evaluating companies to select the LSP candidate that would move on to the next stage.

5. Announcing the Winners of the John Lim Award 2022

Named after our very own Chief Technology Officer, John Lim, the John Lim Award is a distinguished award that recognises software engineers within JurisTech and iMoney, who have made substantial leaps and bounds within the realm of technological innovations. On the 5th of August, this year’s award went to Koh Eng Soon, Ivan Loh, Johnny Chaw, Sherine Tang, Abinson Aaron, and Liew Zu Wei, who developed Juris Omni-Chat, which significantly increased iMoney’s product lead submissions.

6. Our CEO, See Wai Hun, was Awarded The High-Impact Entrepreneur Of The Year by Endeavor

On the 24th of November, Endeavor Malaysia held the Endeavor Malaysia Awards 2022 to highlight and celebrate the outstanding achievements of local entrepreneurs. This year, our CEO, See Wai Hun, was awarded the High-Impact Entrepreneur Of The Year, due to her notable contributions to the founding and building of JurisTech and iMoney respectively. Moreover, under Wai Hun’s leadership, both companies soared to greater heights, making her more than eligible and deserving of the honourable award. 

7. Announcing the Winners of JurisTech Hackathon 2022

JurisTech Hackathon is an intense, fast-paced event where teams come together to brainstorm, develop, and implement new ideas and solutions, with the intent of fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within JurisTech and iMoney. On the 18th of December, we announced the winners of the JurisTech Hackathon 2022. Muhammad Jaffer Hashmani was awarded first place, for his solution that improves and automates two-way communication within JurisTech. This enhances work efficiency by providing full visibility between team members and stakeholders, while reducing the workload of team leaders with easier management and tracking.

8. See Wai Hun Recognised as a Thought-Leader in the Financial Industry

We are fortunate to have a highly respected and influential CEO at the helm. See Wai Hun is widely recognised as a thought leader in the Fintech industry, and is frequently invited to conferences and events around the world. She is known for her innovative ideas and forward-thinking approach to financial technology, and is often sought out for her expertise and insights on industry trends and developments. Wai Hun was invited to share her perspective on the future of fintech and offer valuable insights at several events this year, such as:

Ending the year with an outstanding achievement from our CEO, See Wai Hun, was awarded High Impact Entrepreneur of The Year by Endeavor Malaysia.

Endeavor Malaysia is no stranger to JurisTech. Our CEO, See Wai Hun, COO, Naaman Lee and CTO, John Lim were selected as high-impact Endeavor Entrepreneurs in 2014, and they have been impacting the entrepreneurship scene ever since. In recent years, the non-profit organisation has invited Wai Hun to speak at their events, and even to be an esteemed panellist at Endeavor Malaysia’s Local Selection Panel (LSP). We were very grateful when Wai Hun was awarded the EndeavHER Endeavor Entrepreneur Mentor Of The Year in 2021’s award night.

This year, without exception, Endeavor Malaysia held its annual Endeavor Malaysia Awards 2022 to highlight and celebrate the outstanding work of entrepreneurs in Malaysia. The event gathered company leaders, entrepreneurs, board of directors from many different companies that have amazing contributions to Malaysia and the world’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Kicking off the night with a welcome speech by Endeavor Malaysia’s chairman, Brahmal Vasudevan, who is also the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Creador. After delivering a few words, the night was continued with an annual update of Endeavor’s 2022 performance from Adlin Yusman, managing director of Endeavor Malaysia, Nurshaffira Izzad, Strategy & Marcomm Senior Manager, and Jie-En Teoh, Entrepreneur Experience (EX) Senior Associate. One final speech was delivered by Daniel Keegan from Insider who collaborated with Google to hold the award night.

Then, the long-awaited awards ceremony started. There were many entrepreneurs and industry leaders to be celebrated in 2022. Wai Hun was awarded the High-Impact Entrepreneur Of The Year for her contribution in founding and building JurisTech and iMoney. Over the years, Wai Hun has taken JurisTech to greater heights and accomplished the unthinkable which made her more than eligible and deserving of the prestigious award.  Along with her, several other awards were given too, such as:

Before officiating the awards ceremony, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn, Chairman of Enterprise Asia, gave a heartwarming welcome speech to the audience.

We are proud to announce that our CEO, See Wai Hun, has been awarded EndeavHER Endeavor Entrepreneur Mentor Of The Year by Endeavor Malaysia. 

Held at Metal Studio by Metal Bees, the event was attended by Endeavor board members and partners, along with participating organisation members across all industries. The event started with a welcoming speech by Brahmal Vasudevan, founder and CEO of Creador, and chairman of Endeavor Malaysia, followed by a pre-recorded speech by Linda Rottenberg, Endeavor Global’s Co-founder and CEO.

The event was hosted by Neil Cheong and Nurshaffira Izzad, staff members of Endeavor Malaysia; celebrating the success and achievements of local Malaysian’s entrepreneurs. As one of the first few Endeavor Entrepreneurs to pass the International Selection Panel (ISP) in 2014, Wai Hun is also known to go the extra length to support the goals of Endeavor in mentoring young entrepreneurs and supporting Endeavor’s mission.

As a CEO for a tech company. Wai Hun has been a strong advocate for female empowerment in the tech industry and has spoken multiple times of the importance of growing and encouraging female leaders. In 2021, Endeavor was invited Wai Hun to moderate one of their signature webinars, the Blitzscaling Circle, where she hosted a session with Loi Tuan Ee (also known as Uncle Loi), the founder of Farm Fresh, a Malaysian dairy brand going places with their outstanding growth. It was a glamorous and glittery night at the EY Entrepreneur of The Year Awards Gala, which was officiated by the Minister of Entrepreneur Development, YB Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof. Distinguished guests gathered to toast the Nation’s best and brightest EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2019.

The EY Entrepreneur of The Year award recognises and celebrates Malaysia’s “unstoppable” and inspiring entrepreneurs whose unbounded ambitions redefine the way people live, work, and play. Top nominees were assessed by an independent panel of judges, guided by a set of globally benchmarked criteria, which include entrepreneurial spirit, value creation, strategic direction, national and global impact, innovation and personal integrity/purpose-driven leadership.

It was an intense wait as Mr Song Hoi-see, Founder and CEO of Plaza Premium Lounge and EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2018 announced the winners of each category.

Reaching another catalytic milestone in her entrepreneurship journey and earning the title of EY Woman Entrepreneur Of The Year 2019 was something Wai Hun did not expect.

“If I were to win the EOY award, it won’t be just for me. It’s a testament to all things my team has done. It will be the recognition for the people in the company”, said Wai Hun.

An evident record of achievement for the unflinching desire and determination to succeed despite significant obstacles as she co-founded her company amid the Asian Financial Crisis. A risk-taker and a visionary who sets very high standards, blazing a trail of excellence for her people.
